Hong Kong Awards for eco-excellence bestows Wastewi$e Label on AAT

THE Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) has awarded the highest recognition in the category of waste reduction to Hong Kong-based groundhandler Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT).

The 2013 Wastewi$e Label - Class of Excellence award follows the Energywi$e Label - Class of Excellence honour, which the company received earlier this year.

The Wastewi$e Label is a recognition scheme established under the HKAEE and led by the Environmental Campaign Committee alongside Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Department and in conjunction with nine other organisations. The award aims to encourage and recognise the efforts of Hong Kong businesses and organisations in adopting measures to reduce the amount of waste generated and recycle products.

AAT said in a statement that the award recognises it has successfully reduced paper and plastic bag consumption 14 per cent from April 1 2012 to March 31 2013, actively promoted a waste recycling initiative and streamlined the handling process of used wooden pallets.
