FedEx Express takes delivery of first of 27 Boeing 767-300 freighters

FEDEX Express has delivered first of 27 Boeing 767-300 freighter towards the upgrade of its fleet by more efficient aircraft in terms of fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.

"The 767 is 30 per cent more fuel efficient and has unit operating costs that are more than 20 per cent lower than the aircraft they will replace," FedEx vice president James Parker, reported Atlanta area Air Cargo World.

The 757 can share parts, tooling and flight simulators between the 767 and the operator's 757Fs which number 70. It joins the FedEx fleet of other Boeing freighters including the MD-10 of which it will replace some, MD-11, 757 and the 777.

The freighter is said to be ideal for developing the new long-haul, regional or feeder market, modelled on the popular 767-300ER (extended range) passenger aircraft. It has a payload of 58 tons (52.7 tonnes) of revenue cargo with intercontinental range.
